Swiss Shooting Museum

Spot, aim, hit

The collections document the development of marksmanship in Switzerland, particularly the period since the foundation of the Schweizerischen Schützenvereins (Swiss Rifle Association) in 1824 through to today's modern sport. They date back to the year 1885, a time when the rifle clubsshooting societies played an important part in social life. The museum's holdings include marksmanship trophies, historical documents and photos pictures to do with shooting festivals and international competitions, as well as flags and special weapons. The items provide information about prominent shooters, past and continuing traditions, as well as sporting achievements.

Visitors can even test their own marksmanship skills on the air rifle range that dates from 1952.

Welcome to the Swiss Shooting Museum! This is one of the few sporting history museums in Switzerland and conserves and documents the cultural heritage of a decidedly living tradition. Shooting is one of the favourite sports of this country, along with football, tennis and skiing. Both as a broad-based and top-level sport, shooting at targets is no longer a purely male preserve. Girls take young shooters’ training courses, and women celebrate great successes in international and Olympic competitions. Shooting culture is closely connected with Swiss history and politics. Technical innovation, traditional craftsmanship and customs characterise the shooting movement in Switzerland, right through to today.
