Moneyverse

The Moneyverse presents insights into one of humanity’s most significant inventions – money. Four Money Worlds illuminate the subject from different perspectives: history, economics, society and the individual.

What do nylon stockings, cowries and a tally-stick have in common? Which edition of the Fünfliber (5–Swiss franc coin) is particularly special? What does the most bizarre piggy bank in the collection of the Bern History Museum look like? You will find answers to these questions and more in the exhibition spaces The Phenomenon of Money and Money Laboratory. In Money and Me, people share stories about their personal relationship with money, covering topics such as financial independence, poverty, happiness and wealth. At the Money Bar in the Money and Us exhibition space, you can engage in conversation with our hosts and share your thoughts, for example, on the future of money.

Whether it is withdrawing cash, doing the weekly shopping or paying the rent, the work of the Swiss National Bank is omnipresent in our daily lives. The Swiss National Bank has the mandate to ensure price stability. How exactly does the bank do this? That’s where the exhibition space Money and the National Bank comes in.

If you want a playful way to explore the topics in the Moneyverse, this game is for you: working in small groups, players collect points in four different Money Worlds. Among other challenges, you will have to safely transport stone money weighing many tons from one island to another, or show a banknote the way to your wallet. In between, personal questions prompt players to think about their own relationship with money. But be careful: unexpected game changers can send the game belly up at any moment – will the risk pay off or will you lose everything? Find out!
