Oberhofen on the Lake of Thun: the picture book castle

This is a real castle: Thick walls, a mighty tower and turrets, located in a picturesque lakeside setting with a panoramic vista of the Alps. The interior will not disappoint expectations either. The castle chapel with its mediæval wall paintings (the Virgin Mary, St Christopher, the Last Judgement) invites visitors to linger and reflect. The large exhibition of home life Berne in feudal times brings the atmosphere of many centuries back to life. Visitors can walk through interiors from periods between the 16th and 19th centuries, admire the mighty Knights Hall, enter the elegant summer hall and the neo-Gothic dining room. Finally, in an airy setting, they reach the Turkish smoking room, built in 1855.

Do not miss the castle park with a panoramic view of the high Alps. The mild climate on the shore of Lake Thun makes this one of the most beautiful gardens in the entire Alpine region.
