Natural History Museum: following in nature’s footsteps

Barry, the St Bernard rescue dog who died in 1814, is the favourite exhibit here. This museum run by the Community of

Burghers of Berne cannot fail to amaze its visitors. The 200 lifelike animal dioramas are unique, ranging from Africa and Asia to Alaska and the Swiss mountains. The museum also introduces the public to the world of minerals, with the emphasis on magnificent finds from the Alps. And the earth’s structure is illustrated under the title «Earth – planet and life environment.»

«Hall of Skeletons» brings a 150 year old collection of skeletons back to life. The «Beetles & Co.» display tells the story of the colourful world of invertebrates.

«Fins ∙ Feet ∙ Wings» explains the evolution of mammals across millions of years. The «Spectrum of diversity» presents the rich variety in nature: shellfish, snails, rocks, fossils. etc. can be admired through the video camera enlarged up to 20 times their normal size.
