Two museums under one roof

The imposing chateau-like museum building that overlooks the old town of Bern contains one of the most important historical and cultural collections in Switzerland. Exhibits of world rank include: the Grächwil Hydria, a superb bronze vessel dating to the 6th century BC, the Königsfeld diptych, a masterpiece of 13th century Venetian goldsmith’s art and the millefleurs tapestry of 1466 from the legendary Burgundian booty. Alongside these highlights, the newly laid-out permanent exhibition provides a unique cultural overview of the history of man from the Stone Age to the 20th century.

Under the same roof the visitor will also find the world’s first dedicated Einstein Museum. The lavishly staged exhibition presents Einstein’s life and work in the context of world history in the 20th

century.
